Artillery shelling in Okhtyrka: 5 dead, 15 wounded, among the victims – children

The shelling in the town of Sumy region killed 5 people, including a child.

The wounded are 15, including two children and 9 Ukrainian servicemen, said Olena Lanina, head of the Okhtyrka City Council’s health department.

“Both injured children are currently being operated on at a local hospital,” the official said.

One child has a penetrating wound, the condition is extremely serious, says the head of the Okhtyrka Regional State Administration Pavlo Kuzmenko.

Among the military – 5 have minor injuries. 4 civilians and 4 servicemen were significantly injured.

The shelling took place in the Dachny residential area bordering the military unit, where the Russians were apparently trying to survive, Kuzmenko said.

“The invaders survived in residential buildings, the local thermal power plant, as well as in the Sonechko kindergarten, which has a shelter,” he said.

After warning of possible shelling, people hid in local bomb shelters, basements and other places.

Many civilians hid in the shelter of the kindergarten. That’s where the enemy shell hit, the mayor stressed.

According to him, one of the shells damaged a gas pipeline in a residential building, two more hit the territory of Okhtyrka CHP.

“On the territory of the CHP, one shell exploded, another got stuck without exploding,” Kuzmenko said.

It is possible that today Okhtyrka may be subjected to repeated shelling, as people warn the military.
