Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants transfer David Villa, who FC Barcelona is willing to part with for £10 million.
Arsenal figures to be a major player in the January transfer window as the Premier League chatter continues to heat up. Arsenal have also not given up on signing Barcelona’s unsettled striker David Villa, and that issue could go right to the wire on deadline day.
For a team looking to add a threat in the front, picking up one of the most decorated Spanish players in recent memory would help. He has 168 La Liga goals to his name and scored more World Cup goals than any other Spaniard.
It’s already 26th of January and Arsenal are yet to make their first signing in the winter market. With so many players been linked with the Gunners daily it is a shame that almost all of them were/are mere rumours. One player who has been strongly linked with a move to North London is Barcelona forward David Villa. After initially ruling out Villa’s move the Catalans were willing to move forward with the deal if they receive anything above £10M.
However it now appears that Arsenal will not be making move for the Spanish International.
Still, there’s a reason that Barca is willing to give up Villa at this point in the season. He has not been the same dynamic player since breaking his leg in December 2011. He may not ever get back to that form as he’s already at age 31.
The Gunners feel there has been enough encouragement from the player to give them hope that Barca may agree to sell, with the Spain international wanting more regular football.
Overall, probably a smart pickup for the Gunners, but a younger, healthier option would be more enticing.
