The key meeting of army commanders of Pakistan is underway in garrison city of Rawalpindi to discuss the looming political turmoil and security situation in the country.

Islamabad, Aug 11/Nationalturk – In view of looming political turmoil in the country, the important meeting of army commanders of Pakistan is underway in garrison city of Rawalpindi to discuss the situation.

Officials said Pakistan army chief General Raheel Sharif was chairing the meeting of the corps commanders at army’s General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

The commanders were meeting three days before the “freedom march” and “revolution march” called by Pakistan’s two major parties – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led by cricketer turned politician Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) of cleric and politician Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri.

Imran and Qadri have called for “freedom” and “revolution” marches on August 14, Independence Day of Pakistan, to oust the elected government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Army commanders will discuss political turmoil

Sources said the meeting of Pakistan corps commanders will discuss threadbare the political turmoil in the country and can take decision whether to be with government to play a neutral role.

Pakistan government has already called army in capital to deal with the situation.

They said the prevailing political situation would be one of the key agenda items during the conference.

Military operation in NWA to be reviewed

Army commanders will also review operation Zarb-e-Azb launched by Pakistan army in North Waziristan tribal agency on June 15. According to Pakistan army, over 600 militants and 40 soldiers have been killed in about two month long military operation.

The militant attacks in Pakistan have dropped significantly after military launched operation against militants in North Waziristan. No major militant attack or suicide bombing has taken place in the country during last two months.

“Besides, reviewing progress of the military operation in North Waziristan, the army commanders will also review country’s internal security,” sources said.
