Another earthquake in Turkey!
Eastern Turkey was shaken by another aftershock. In the 5.5 magnitude earthquake, 29 buildings were destroyed and 1 person died.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 occurred in Malatya’s Yeşilyurt district. According to the first determinations, 1 person died and 69 people were injured in the earthquake, which was felt in many cities, especially in Malatya and Elazig.
An earthquake of 5.5 magnitude occurred in Malatya Yeşilyurt at 12:04. AFAD declared the magnitude of the earthquake as 5.6. The earthquake was felt in Malatya as well as in surrounding provinces such as Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, Elazığ, Adıyaman and Şanlıurfa.
Orhan Tatar, General Manager of AFAD Earthquake Risk Reduction, stated that one person lost his life, 69 people were injured, and 29 buildings were destroyed in the 5.6 earthquake in Malatya.
About 1 hour after the earthquake, a citizen named Ali Şahingil was rescued alive from under the rubble with the work of the teams.
Mehmet Çınar, the mayor of Yeşilyurt district, the epicenter of the earthquake, said, “According to the first information we received, we received the notice that 4-5 buildings were demolished. In Şeyh Bayram and Çavuşoğlu neighborhoods. Our hope is that there are no casualties,” he said.
In the statement made on AFAD’s social media account, it was said, “As a result of the field scanning studies after the earthquake, it was determined that there were destroyed buildings, and our search and rescue teams were quickly dispatched to the region and started to work.”
Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute Director Prof. Dr. Haluk Özener made a statement regarding the 5.6 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Malatya’s Yeşilyurt district. Özener said, “We pointed out that it is quite natural for them to be around 5.6 in size. This earthquake is one of them, an earthquake that happened around Malatya. There will be such earthquakes. We will unfortunately experience these earthquakes,” he said, and continued as follows:
“Our citizens should be vigilant and stay as calm as possible and stop before entering their damaged buildings. Unfortunately, we will experience these earthquakes. Our friends get details from the automatic analysis one after the other after each earthquake.”
