Runaway kangaroos have been keeping the German police busy. Getting help by a fox and a wild boar, 3 kangaroos got through two fences and jumped to freedom from a wildlife park in western Germany. The escapade ended though 15 kilometers away before police closed in on animals on the run.
Köln / NationalTurk – Rheinböllen Wildlife Park in Germany isn’t exactly an Ausschwitz, but getting out isn’t easy either. To get through two fences to reach the freedom you need help from within outside and sometimes from your inmates.
3 kangaroos had it enough there and perfected an incredeble escape at the weekend with the help of a young fox and a wild boar that were trying to break into the Wildlife park.
The boar tore a hole in the fence surrounding the Wildlife park and the fox made its way under another fence into an enclosure by digging where the kangaroos were kept.
The marsupial buddies, whose names are Jack, Mick and Skippy, didn’t waste time and oppurtunity. 3 amigos hopped off into the night and managed to get 15 kilometers away from the park when a passerby spotted them. The last renegade kangaroo one was caught late on Monday.
‘A very fit policewoman hurled herself onto the kangaroo. We’ve got them all back now,’ the zoo’s deputy manager Michael Hoffmann explained. ‘The kangoos not aggressive at all. We were worried they might get run over.’
‘ At the moment there are a lot of young foxes about looking for food,’ Hoffmann said. ‘And wild boars try to get in here too because they can dig around our meadows and don’t have to worry about getting shot.’
Hoffmann is concerned he couldn’t rule out further breakouts. ‘It would cost too much to put a stronger fence up.’
