Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for United Nations refugees agency (UNHCR) since 2001, has been granted permission to visit Syrians who have come to Turkey after fleeing the conflict at their homeland Syria.
The Foreign Ministry had received a request from Jolie, who works for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and added that the government viewed the issue “positively.”
Syrian Refugees Numbers close to 10000
The flow of Syrian refugees to the Turkish border continued Monday and Tuesday. According to Turkish Foreign Ministry officials, a total of 8,538 Syrians have come to Turkey thus far, many fleeing violence in the northwestern town of Jisr al-Shugur, a town some roughly 40 kilometres south from the Turkish border, which has been the scene of a major army operation under command of Syrian dictator Hafez Assad.
Angelina Jolie visited refugee camps along the Libyan-Tunisian border last April. Her visit to Turkey stirred excitement among her turkish fans.
