All games are cancelled: Third division club Türkgücü Munich stops playing

First they were punished with a point deduction, now nothing works anymore. Türkgücü Munich no longer takes part in the 3rd division. This has enormous consequences for other teams.

A bang in German professional football. Türkgücü Munich withdraws from playing in the 3rd division with immediate effect. The club announced this on Thursday. All games played so far will be cancelled.

Türkgücü is no longer able to “meet its current payment obligations and thus economically maintain the game operations until the end of the season,” said the German Football Association (DFB).

“Despite intensive efforts in the past few weeks, unfortunately no new investor could be found,” says Türkgücü Managing Director Max Kothny. The fact that a team has to stop playing during the season is a unique occurrence in German professional football.

The club’s statement said on Thursday: “Turkgücü München Fußball GmbH & Co. KGaA must stop playing in the 3rd division by the end of March 2022. The club’s management in the presence of the provisional insolvency administrator Dr. Max Liebig der The team and the employees of the club this Thursday morning at a works meeting.”

Patron Kivran turned off the money supply

In January, Türkgücü filed for bankruptcy because President and patron Hasan Kivran had turned off the money supply. The club was penalized with a nine-point deduction.

Due to further violations of conditions, the penalty increased to eleven points. The deduction had become partially effective in mid-March. Now it was complete.

Munich are automatically placed at the bottom of the table and are the first to be relegated. The points that the opponents could bring in against Türkgücü in the previous season are taken out of the ranking. Thus, the entire table of the 3rd league has to be cleaned up, which has a considerable impact on promotion races and relegation battles. Promotion candidate Saarbrücken, for example, loses its six points against Munich and slips from third to fourth place in the table.
