Jorge Mendes breaks his silence
Cristiano Ronaldo's long-time advisor Jorge Mendes breaks his silence after splitting up with CR7
Jorge Mendes and Cristiano Ronaldo surprisingly parted ways in business last year. The agent comments on this.
WHAT HAPPENED? Jorge Mendes commented on the Al-Nassr superstar for the first time after his separation from Cristiano Ronaldo. The striker’s long-time advisor struck a conciliatory tone.
WHAT WAS SAID? Mendes explained: “Our personal relationship remains close. How do I see this phase of his life? Well, Cristiano will always have a place in my heart. He is a special player and a special person for me.” All Portuguese should be “proud to have a player like him,” said the 57-year-old.
WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND? Mendes looked after Ronaldo for almost his entire career. The relationship came to an abrupt end last fall because they had different opinions about the 38-year-old attacker’s future plans.
Ronaldo, who was still playing for Manchester United at the time, is said to have accused Jorge Mendes of not having placed him at FC Bayern or Chelsea. The agent, on the other hand, strongly advised Ronaldo against his scandalous interview with Piers Morgan. That interview led to his expulsion from United. According to a report by L’Équipe, Mendes is said to have called it a “big piece of shit.”
Ronaldo’s friend Ricky Regufe then took on the role of advisor and was also instrumental in Ronaldo’s move to Al-Nassr in January.
