Merida to stay at Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has expressed his delight that midfielder Fran Merida who is a hot future prospect has agreed a new deal and will be staying at Arsenal, but has not signed the contract yet.

Atletico Madrid added much speculation on Merida’s future at Arsenal as they wanted to lure him back home to Spain.

The 19-year-old’s current contract expires next summer and Arsenal are keen to tie him down to a new long-term deal and it looks likely that Merida will stay at Arsenal.

Wenger does admit that many clubs have been interested with Merida which has made it a little difficult for Merida to sign a new contract But Arsene Wenger was not happy with the way Atletico Madrid made their interest known.

Wenger had these to say “He has an offer which he has agreed, but has not signed yet, Some clubs are doing their work behind our back to destabilise him. We cannot stop that, but it is a fact.”
