Princess Madeleine surprises with a family photo

In recent years, the absence of the princess in Sweden has repeatedly caused dissatisfaction. Now Madeleine sparked joy among the people.

In autumn 2018, Madeleine emigrated from Sweden to the USA with her husband Chris O’Neill and their children. Since then, the youngest daughter of King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia has kept fewer appointments in her home country. Her absence on important occasions, such as her father’s birthday or the national holiday last year, caused displeasure among the people. The popularity of the princess continued to decline.

Then the surprise: The palace announced a few months ago that the 40-year-old and her family “will move back to Stockholm in August 2023 and will live in Sweden until further notice”. And Madeleine has already set an important sign for a new beginning: She traveled from Florida for this year’s national holiday on June 6th – with her husband and children.

Princess Madeleine with her family in traditional costume

There had previously been confusion about the royals’ participation. Although the court had confirmed that the princess would come to Sweden, it was not entirely clear until the end with whom. Now Madeleine provided clarification herself: on Tuesday she posted a photo on Instagram showing her with Chris O’Neill, daughters Adrienne and Leonore and son Nicolas.

Appropriately for the occasion, the family poses in traditional clothing. While the princesses wear the white, yellow and blue national costume of blouses and dresses, the prince and his father wear dark suits. The seven-year-old was allowed to do without a tie.

The snapshot is a nice surprise for the fans of the princess. In the comments on the post, numerous users express their joy. The post has already received almost 20,000 “likes” within a few hours.

National Day is a big annual celebration in Sweden, but this time it’s something very special. On June 6th it will be five centuries since Gustav Wasa was elected king in Strängnäs in 1523 and Sweden ushered in a new era. The country withdrew from the Kalmar Union with Denmark and Norway and can already “celebrate 500 years as a free and independent nation,” emphasized the royal family.

King Carl Gustaf – who is also celebrating his 50th jubilee this year – and Queen Silvia celebrated the day with family and people at celebrations across the country. There was an “Open Castle Day”, the traditional changing of the guard and an event at the Skansen open-air museum in Stockholm. In the evening there was a reception at the Nordiska Museet.

On the national holiday, she demonstrates her love for her homeland with her husband and children

Madeleine of Sweden is back in her home country – and on the national holiday with her family is traditional.

It was probably the most eagerly awaited appearance on this year’s Swedish national holiday: Madeleine of Sweden (40) back in her old homeland. After the 40-year-old had to cancel a charity event in Stockholm in May because daughter Leonore (9) broke her arm, the royal fans were all the more excited to see the princess, who still lives in Florida, back on June 6th to see their country of birth.

Madeleine of Sweden and family all festive

And they were not disappointed! Because in line with the festive occasion, the beautiful 40-year-old wrapped herself in Swedish costume from head to toe – as did her daughters Leonore and Adrienne (5). Son Nicolas (7) and husband Chris O’Neill (48) chose chic suits.

The Swedes are happy about their return

In a photo that Madeleine posted on Instagram, she shows herself with a traditional hat, a white blouse and an embroidered dress in the national colors. Her daughters wear similar ensembles on it. “Happy national holiday,” writes the princess, whose move back to Sweden is imminent. Madeleine also added: “We love Sweden” – not written out, but with emojis.

And the Swedes love the likeable aristocrat just as much: under the picture there are cheering comments that also wish you a happy holiday and welcome Madeleine back home.

How long the royal emigrant family will stay in Sweden this time is not yet clear, nor if they will be there on July 14 to celebrate Crown Princess Victoria’s 46th birthday. What is certain, however, is that they will return home in August. And then they will certainly be there again at all festive occasions and birthdays.
