Aerosmith announces farewell tour

The US rock band Aerosmith has announced a final tour 53 years after it was founded. “Let’s all go nuts one last time,” the group wrote on its website Monday. From autumn 2023 around 40 concerts are planned throughout North America. Kicking off September 2nd in Philadelphia, the band will then tour the US and Canada, stopping “in famous arenas such as the Kia Forum in Los Angeles and Madison Square Garden in New York.”

A highlight will be an appearance in their hometown of Boston, where Aerosmith will play a special show on New Year’s Eve 2023. The concert series in Montreal ends on January 26th. “This isn’t a farewell, this is a peace out!”, the band concludes and promises: “You’re going to have the best show of your life.”

“If you think we’re joking, keep dreaming!”

The group shared a two-minute video in which they can be seen. “It’s true,” confirms frontman Steven Tyler and clarifies at the end of the clip: “And if you think we’re joking, dream on!”

Recently there have been repeated rumors about a definitive end to the band after Aerosmith repeatedly had to cancel concerts. This was mainly due to the health of Steven Tyler. The musician had suffered a drug relapse after an operation on his foot and was admitted to a rehab clinic, as the band announced last year. The 75-year-old had always been very open about his addiction, according to his own statement he had been clean for a few years.

Aerosmith was founded in the USA in 1970. In addition to the founding members Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford and Joey Kramer have also been there since the early seventies. The band had worldwide success, especially in the 80s and 90s with songs like “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing”, “Crazy”, “Livin’ On The Edge”, “Amazing” or “Janie’s Got A Gun”.

After more than 50 years of band history: Aerosmith announce a farewell tour in a star-studded video.
Aerosmith go on one last tour. The rock band around Steven Tyler (75) announced this on their website. The final tour of North America begins on September 2, 2023 in Philadelphia and ends on January 26, 2024 in Montreal, Canada. Guest on the “Peace Out” tour is the band The Black Crowes. Aerosmith will only appear in the USA and Canada, there are no European dates on their planned tour.

Aerosmith announced their farewell with an elaborate video. In it, “Breaking News” shakes the United States, from workers to suit wearers. Stars like Beatles drummer Ringo Starr (82), rapper Eminem (50) and country legend Dolly Parton (77) are horrified in interviews. At first we don’t see what upsets her so much.

Then comedian Bill Burr (54) calls Aerosmith, who are apparently the reason for the riot. Steven Tyler confirms the rumors and says goodbye with a “peace out”. This phrase can be understood both as “relax” and as a farewell formula.

Aerosmith: End of career after more than 50 years

Singer Steven Tyler, guitarist Joe Perry (72) and bassist Tom Hamilton (71) founded Aerosmith in Boston in 1970. The big breakthrough came in 1975 with the third album “Toys in the Attic” with the song “Walk this Way”. At the end of the 1970s, the band fell into a career hole due to drug excesses.

When the rappers from Run-D.M.C. Covering “Walk This Way” with Aerosmith in 1986, the rockers returned to the scene. In the late 1980s and early 1990s they landed hits with songs such as “Love in an Elevator” and “Cryin”. In 1998, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” from the movie “Armageddon” hit number one on the US charts. The film song became their biggest hit.
