Srinagar, June 28: Two more youth have died in police and paramilitary soldiers firing in Indian Kashmir on Monday. With today’s death, at least seven youth have died in police and paramilitary soldiers firing in nine days in the region.
The paramilitary soldiers fired on a group of people, who were protesting against killed of youth by soldiers in Sopore, some 55 kms North of Kashmir. A protestor was killed and some others injured in the firing.
Reports said that the incident took place this afternoon when the protestors chanting-pro-freedom and pro-Islamic slogans staged a forceful demonstration in front of a battalion headquarter of paramilitary soldiers in Sopore. After lobbing tear smoke shells, the paramilitary soldiers fired directly at the crowd, killing a protestor and injuring many others. The injured have been hospitalized.
The killing of youth has added to the turmoil.
Meanwhile, the paramilitary soldiers fired on a group of people demanding action against the soldiers involved in firing on innocent people at Delina, Baramulla in North Kashmir. A young protestor sustained critical bullet injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he died.
With two more death in paramilitary soldiers firing, at least seven innocent and unarmed youth have died in paramilitary soldiers firing on peaceful protestors in Kashmir in nine days. The killings have ignited anti-India and anti-paramilitary soldiers sentiments in Kashmir and added to the alienation.
Earlier, on Sunday (June 27) a 22-year old football player Bilal Ahmad was killed in paramilitary soldiers firing.
On June 20, Indian paramilitary soldiers fired on the funeral procession of the 24-year old Mohammad Rafiq Bangroo, who died after succumbing to injuries sustained in the soldiers beating on June 12. In the firing on Bangroo’s funeral procession, his 19-year old cousin Javaid Ahmad Malla was killed.
On June 26, Indian paramilitary soldiers fired on a crowd in Sopore, 55 kms North of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian Kashmir. The people were demanding bodies of two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, who were killed in the gunfight in the area earlier in the day. Instead of giving them the bodies, the paramilitary soldiers (CRPF men) fired indiscriminately on the people, killing two people and injuring 10 others.
