Condor makes bulk purchases from Airbus

The company has ordered a total of 41 new Airbus aircraft.

The German leisure airline Condor secured a major order for the world’s largest aircraft manufacturer Airbus shortly after the Farnborough Air Show. The order includes 13 medium-haul jets of the type A320neo and 28 machines of the long version A321neo, Condor said after a decision by the supervisory board on Monday in Neu-Isenburg near Frankfurt.

There would also be purchase options for other machines. According to the company, the holiday airline wants to use the new jets to replace its previous short- and medium-haul fleet from spring 2024. This consists of Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft as well as Boeing 757 jets. The company is already exchanging its Boeing 767 long-haul jets for new Airbus A330neo aircraft.

At the Farnborough Airshow southwest of London last week, Airbus had only announced new orders for 29 passenger jets. That was only a fraction of what was usual at trade fairs before the corona pandemic. Sales manager Christian Scherer then explained that Airbus did not need an air show “to show that we sell aircraft”. After many hundreds of orders in the course of the year so far, the manufacturer is also expecting a strong second half of the year.
