Every year, the booking platform Booking.com presents the so-called Traveler Review Awards, based on the reviews of millions of travelers. In addition to hotels, holiday apartments and transport providers, the most hospitable cities in the world are also recognized.
To choose the most hospitable cities in the world, Booking.com analyzed where the most Traveler Review Awards-winning accommodations are located. The southern Italian city of Matera came in first, with an above-average number of hotels and holiday apartments that received very good ratings from travellers.
Matera has been the setting for many blockbuster films and its impressive cave structures are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In addition, Matera was European Capital of Culture in 2019 and as a result has become better known worldwide. You can find out more about Matera here.
Bled in Slovenia and Taitung in Taiwan took second and third place in the ranking of the most hospitable cities. Overall, the list is dominated by European cities.
