A big train crash in northwest Turkey
A car of a train derailed and crashed into another train traveling in the opposite direction in northwest Turkey on Thursday.
In the crash thirty-two people were injured.
Gov. Gokhan Ozer of Kocaeli told state television that the accident occurred in Kocaeli province, some 100 kilometers east of Istanbul.
“One car of a train derailed and hit an oncoming train,” Ozer said. “Thirty-two people were injured in the crash. One of them is in serious condition.”
Medics carried the injured on stretchers to ambulances with the help of survivors, the television footage showed.
The governor said most of the injured were taken to a hospital which is close to the scene of the crash. All passengers were evacuated, authorities said.
