United States has expressed desire to work with new Indian government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose rightwing Hindu party BJP won general elections in India.
New Delhi, July 3/Nationalturk – United States Senator John McCain on Thursday said America is keen to work with new Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
McCain called on Prime Minister Modi in Indian capital New Delhi today and discussed issues of mutual interest.
“Senator McCain conveyed the high level of expectations in United States about a new momentum in India`s economic growth and all-round progress under the new Government headed by PM Modi,” an Indian government spokesman said.
He said while wishing PM all success in his future endeavours, US senator conveyed the keen desire in the United States to work with him to revitalise the India-U.S. Strategic Partnership.
The spokesman said PM Modi also conveyed his desire to further deepen and expand the strategic partnership, based on shared values and interests; sensitivity to each other`s concerns; and, tangible progress across the full spectrum of bilateral relations.
Modi’s rightwing Hindu party BJP won the general elections in the country.
US has denied visa to Modi since 2002
US has denied visa to Modi since 2002 when anti-Muslim riots took place in Indian state of Gujarat. Modi was the chief minister of Gujarat when anti-Muslim riots took place and his government is accusing of doing nothing to stop Muslim killings at the hands of Hindu rioters.
However, after rightwing Hindu party BJP won Indian general elections and Modi became Prime minister of the country, US has expressed desire to work with him.
Indian government spokesman said PM Modi and Senator McCain also discussed Iraq and Afghanistan was discussed.
Modi hoped for a forward looking, result-oriented visit to the United States in September 2014 to take the relationship to a new level.
The Prime Minister also expressed concern over the increased threat of terrorism across the world, and reiterated that the fight against terror should be a global priority for humanitarian forces.
