How carefully the safety in the mine disaster of Soma has been checked? According to the newspaper “Hürriyet” the brother of a mine manager has passed the inspection.

A newspaper report suggests irregularities in the safety inspections in disguise mine of Soma in western Turkey. So the pit was indeed declared safe. The review was conducted according to “Hurriyet” but of a close relative of a manager of the mining company.

Against several alleged leaders the prosecution has already initiated process . Threaten you under Turkish law up to 15 years in prison. In the meantime, more than 20 suspects were arrested , including the manager of the mine. Pit boss Alp Gürkan 2012 had boasted to have the production cost per ton of coal decreased tremendously.

Criticism had triggered the crackdown by the police against demonstrators in Soma after the mine disaster among others. Indignation provoked also an adviser to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan , who joined on a Soma lying on the ground demonstrators. Erdogan’s behavior when visiting the disaster area had been criticized for being tactless
