Middle man in Turkish match fixing scandal arrested

A man in Antalya / Turkey has been arrested by Turkish police linked to the football match fixing scandal that has rocked the country.

Istanbul / Turkey’s financial crime police unit had conducted a simultaneous raid in several cities in the country arresting close to 50 suspects including several high profile sportsman.

The man from Antalya only known as S.P. is thought to be unemployed and was arrested by Antalya police forces.

The suspect is thought to be the middle man who enables the match fixing gang to communicate with professional footballers and other officials.

S.P. will be handed over to the Istanbul based financial crime police unit for questioning.

The simultaneous raids in dozens of addresses in Turkey was a result of the Bochum match fixing investigation which shocked the European sporting world after major European Leagues and European competitions including champions league matches were thought to have been manipulated.

According to Bochum’s police director Friedhelm Althans the betting gang was thought have made close to $15 million dollars by bribing Football players, referees, coaches and other football officials to fix games.
