Münevver Karabulut: The case of the year
Cem Gariboğlu faces 18 to 24 years in prison
Cem Garipoğlu, who confessed to killing and beheading his 17-year-old girlfriend Münevver Karabulut, was attacked by Karabulut’s brother during his trial Thursday.
Enver Karabulut threw a syringe at Garipoğlu on Thursday morning during the first hearing of the trial at the 2nd Children’s Criminal Court in Bakırköy. Officials were uncertain of what was in the syringe, but Enver Karabulut said it contained nitric acid. He was later detained.
Cem Garipoğlu confessed to murdering his girlfriend, Münevver Karabulut, after cutting off her head and dumping her body into a garbage container in March.
After he committed the crime, Garipoğlu was on the run for more than three months. He was 17 at the time. Garipoğlu gave himself up in September while his father was in custody for the murder.
