In what could be termed as a bad news, the Chinese capital Beijing reported the first bird flu case on Saturday with H7N9 strain of the disease detected in 7-year-old girl.
Beijing, April 13/Nationalturk -The Chinese capital Beijing Saturday reported the first bird flu case after a 7-year-old girl was found infected with H7N9 virus.
According to health officials, a seven-year-old girl was found infected with the H7N9 strain of bird flu in Beijing.
It is the first such case in the Chinese capital.
According to health officials, the case was confirmed following a test by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention early today.
They said the girl, whose parents are poultry traders in a township of Shunyi District in Beijing’s northeastern suburbs, developed bird flu symptoms, including fever, cough, sore throat and headache on Thursday. “She was shifted to Beijing Ditan Hospital and was hospitalized for lung infection.”
The officials said the girl child received the Tamiflu drug as well as intravenous drips and later was shifted to Intensive Care Unit of the hospital after her condition worsened.
“After oxygen therapy and other treatment, her suffocation and coughing symptoms eased markedly and body temperature fell to 37 degrees Celsius from 40.2 degrees Celsius,” Chinese state news agency, Xinhua quoted a spokesman of Beijing Ditan Hospital as saying.
He said two people, who had close contact with the girl child, have not shown any flu symptoms.
The health officials said the condition of the child is stable now. “Her condition is being monitored”
44 bird flu cases detected in China from February 2013
The new case raised the number of H7N9 infections in China to 44. However, barring the latest case, all other 43 were detected in eastern parts of China. The bird flu has so far claimed 11 lives in China.
The first cases of the virus were reported in February this year in eastern China. According to the WHO, there is no evidence that the H7N9 virus is being transmitted between people, and most cases come from poultry.
According to reports, Shanghai, the center of the outbreak, has warned residents to watch for high fevers, breathing difficulties and other symptoms. Hospitals have set up special fever clinics.
