Turkey mourns the death of Turkish football player Ediz Bahtiyaroglu from Super league outfit
Eskişehirspor footballer Ediz Bahtiyaroğlu died of a heart attack in his home in the Central Anatolian province of Eskişehir, hometown of Turkish Sports Club Eskisehirspor. Turkish sports community deplores over this his loss.
Eskişehir / NationalTurk – The 26-year-old Turkish player had finished his training routine at the club’s facilities at around 7:30 p.m. and went back to the house he shared with a teammate. Ediz Bahtiyaroğlu’s girlfriend was also with them at the residence in Eskisehir.
Bahtiyaroğlu collapsed later in the night, prompting his teammate and girlfriend to call the emergency services. Paramedics who arrived at the scene saw that the young footballer was suffering a heart attack. Ediz Bahtiyaroğlu could not be saved despite the efforts of the first responders.
Eskişehirspor club pyhsio Mehmet Ali Armağan stated Bahtiyaroğlu neither smoked nor drank alcohol.
“He [Ediz] had not gone through heavy training or anything,” the club doctor told reporters after the player’s autopsy. “The certain cause of death will be determined after we receive the results of the autopsy.”
Turkish Super League just started 3 weeks ago. Eskisehirspor opened the new season one month earlier than most other Turkish football clubs, as they had participated the UEFA Europe League. They played the first game of the season on 2nd of August against French outfit Marseille.
A funeral service will be held for Ediz Bahtiyaroglu in his hometown of Bursa today where the athlete will be buried.
His sudden death after a heart attack saddened and upset Turkey’s sport community deeply. The importance and seriousness of medicals applied to athletes is under question.

Eskişehirspor’s trainer Ersun Yanal have had tragic misfortunes regarding heart conditions among footballers . In 3 different teams he has coached 3 players have suffered heart conditions.
In 2004 during his spell at Genclerbirliği, at one training session Yaval’s cardiac rhythm problem emerged. In 2007 Ersun Yanal was the manager of Manisaspor. Manisaspor’s Czech footballer Meduna had suffered a serious heart attack during a Super League game which caused him to retire from professional football at the age of just 25.
