Oklahoma City has become the first team to make into the NBA finals. The Thunder won their best-of-seven series against San Antonio in fashion, 4-2, in the Western Conference Finals decider.
Oklahoma City Thunder officially grew into title contenders with four wins in a row over the veteran and rolling San Antonio Spurs. The home side were the slower out of the blocks in the latest game, but managed to overturn a 14-point deficit after the opening quarter and a 18 point one in the first half to eventually defeat the three-time NBA champions 107-99 four times consecutively.
Kevin Durant was top-scorer with 34 points adding 14 rebounds en route. His teammates, Russel Westbrook and James Harden, combined for another 41 points. 25 came from Westbrook. After years of nagging Oklahoma City Thunder coach Scott Brooks not to take him out of games, Kevin Durant finally got his wish.

‘ This is our first time here at this stage. And you know, we knew we had a great opportunity coming into the game to try to close it out. It just felt good,’ Kevin Durant stated after the decisive game. Durant added : “It felt good for the city of Oklahoma, knowing where we came from and how hard we worked. So, we just got to continue to keep going, keep believing and we’ll see what happens next.”
Tony Parker had 29 points and 12 assists for San Antonio Spurs, but only eight of the points and two assists came in the second half. Tim Duncan chipped in 25 points and 14 rebounds, and Stephen Jackson scored 23 as San Antonio lost its fourth straight after becoming only the fourth team in NBA history to win 20 games in a row, 10 of the in the post season.
Game 1 of the NBA finals will be Tuesday night in Oklahoma City against either Boston or Miami. The Celtics lead that series 3-2 and can earn a trip to the finals with a win at home in Game 6 on Thursday night.
