About 61 people killed and several others seriously injured after a massive fire broke out at AMRI Hospital in Dhakuria, south of Kolkata early Friday.
Reportedly, all the dead people are patients. Around 160 patients were in the hospital building when this mishap took place in wee hours.
A rescue team reached the spot immediately after being informed. Victims have been admitted to two other units of the same hospital located at Mukundapur and Saltlake.
Many people are still believed to be trapped inside the building. As per sources, the death toll may also rise. Meanwhile, fire department has lodged an FIR against AMRI hospital authorities citing that they did not have the adequate fire-preventive mechanism.
