After yesterday’s 7.2 Turkey Earthquake, a young boy named Yunus waits to be rescued from under a collapsed building in the city of Ercis—on the north shore of Lake Van—early Monday. The lifeless hand of another, an unseen victim rests on his shoulder.

Van / NationalTurk – Following the initial earthquake on Sunday, rescue teams began using heavy equipment such as diggers and cranes to remove big pieces of debris before going through the wreckage with picks, shovels, and even bare hands. Although reports of miracles come not all of them end happy.

The boy in the picture, Yunus hasn’t survived the hour, after he was pulled out of the rubble. The picture becomes a symbol of the Turkey Earthquake 2011. The 13 tear old is reported to have died from internal bleeding.

Turkey Earthquake : Rescuers search for Survivors

Rescuers worked through the night to find survivors. In many cases, workers found trapped people when the fortunate victims could use their cell phones to call emergency lines.
