Istanbul , Turkey

Istanbul, historically also known under the names Byzantium and Constantinople, is bounded on the north and the south by two seas, the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara, respectively. The western half of the city lies in Europe while the eastern half is situated in Asia; in between the two halves flows the Bosphorus Strait. Istanbul is a leading port whose importance is stressed by the age-old trade routes passing through the Bosphorus. It is the second largest metropolitan area in Europe by population and is the cultural, economic, and financial centre of Turkey. There are 37 universities in Istanbul, private and public. Championship’s partner university is Haliç University Istanbul, founded in 1998. The university embraces contemporary quality principle in education, and consists of 21 academic departments in its five faculties, three schools and a conservatory.
