6.0 magnitude earthquake hit’s Northern Peru
Earthquake News – A strong earthquake measuring 6.0 in the Richter scale has hit Northern Peru, but there have not been any reports of injuries, deaths or major damages to building as yet.
The quake which was measures to be 125 kilometers below the surface of the ground hit 130 kilometers of north-northwest of Moyobamba and 700-800 kilometers north of Lima, the capital or Peru at approximately 4.15am GMT on Wednesday.
The earthquake has taken place in one of the most active faults of world regarding seismic activity, called the Pacific Rim which also covers Chile and Ecuador and has caused major earthquakes in several countries in the past.
It has been reported that large mines which is a major source of income for the country were unharmed by the quake.
An earthquake which hit the Latin American country on August 2007, with 8.0 magnitude had killed 600 people and thousands injured.
One of the country’s worst Earthquake catastrophes was in 1970 when a 7.9 magnitude claimed the lives of 66,000 people and resulted in a massive landslide which buried a town in Yungay.
