Srinagar, May 14: Three Indian paramilitary soldiers and a policeman were among five persons injured in a powerful grenade explosion in India occupied Kashmir on Friday.
A spokesman of paramilitary CRPF, Prabhakar Tripathi said the grenade blast took place when clashes were going on between youth and soldiers in old city areas.
“Youth were pelting stones towards police and paramilitary soldiers at Saraf-Kadal, some 5 kms from summer capital of Indian Kashmir on Friday afternoon. All of a sudden, somebody from the crowd lobbed a grenade towards the soldiers. The grenade exploded with a big bang causing injuries to three paramilitary soldiers, a policeman and a civilian,” he said.
He said the injured persons were hospitalized. “The paramilitary soldiers had sustained minor injuries and their condition is stable,” he said.
Immediately after the explosion, police and paramilitary soldiers laid siege around the area to flush out the militants responsible for the attack. No arrests were, however, reported.
Meanwhile, no militant group has owned the responsibility of the attack.
Indian Kashmir has been witnessing militancy violence since 1989 after youth took to guns to fight Indian rule.
According to government figures more than 40,000 people have died in over two decades of violence in the region while the separatists fighting Indian rule say more than one lakh people have died in the turmoil so far.

Don’t panic Mr. Pissweazle! As pointless as your life is (and it rlaely is), you would be wrong in shuffling off this mortal coil as a result of your fantasy predicament. Your captain changes and substitutions will be applied tonight once the gameweek has been finished. You will then shoot up the table like some form of disappointing firework. You’re right about Liverpool though, as annoyed as I was by Utd’s sheer crapness I was delighted that Liverpool were even worse.
Please use the word Indian-occupied Kashmir because Kashmir is a disputed territory, according to UNO and Kashmiris. If yo want to be neutral, you can use the term Indian-ruled Kashmir, or Indian-controlled Kashmir. Such a thing as “Indian Kashmir” was not expected from a turkish newspaper
