38 people, mostly police officers and men were killed in suicide bombing in policeman’s funeral in restive Quetta city in Pakistan on Thursday.

Islamabad, Aug 8/Nationalturk- At least 38 people including a top police officer and some other officers were killed in suicide bombing in policeman’s funeral in restive Quetta city in Pakistan on Thursday.

Police officials said the suicide bomber blew up himself when senior officers were preparing to offer funeral prayers of a deceased police officer in Police Lines, Quetta in restive Balochistan province. “The suicide bombing took place outside a mosque where the funeral procession of police officer (SHO City Mohibullah) was being held”.

Mohibullah was killed and his four children and driver injured when unidentified person fired on him in Alamu Chowk, Quetta.

300-400 people, mostly policemen, were attending funeral

Police sources said around 300 to 400 people, including DIG Operations Fayyaz Sumbal, DSP Shamsur Rehman, IG Balochistan and CCPO, were attending the funeral procession of the deceased police officer.

S“DIG Operations and DSP were among 38 people, who were killed in the blast. Both the officer died on the spot while IG Balochistan and CCPO survived the attack,” officials said.

They said most of the dead and injured were policemen. “Several of the injured were said to be in critical condition”.

Area cordoned off after bombing

Immediately after the suicide bombing, police and paramilitary forces cordoned off the area and launched search and rescue operation. The cops shifted injured to hospital and launched a massive manhunt to track down accomplices of the suicide bomber.

No militant group has claimed responsibility for the bombing yet. However, security agencies apprehend that the bombing might have been carried out be dreaded militant outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
