3-year-old with salmonella infection in the clinic
Shortly before Easter, Ferrero had recalled its surprise eggs in several EU countries. Background: The chocolate feast is said to have been contaminated with salmonella.
According to media reports, at least 60 people – mainly small children – have been affected by symptoms of poisoning in Great Britain alone.
Now a mother from Barry (Wales) is suing. Kasey Cooke (26) claims that her son Billy (3) had to be hospitalized with salmonella poisoning after eating a surprise egg.
The incident took place last month. A few days after the snack, the three-year-old could barely stand, Cooke said. “I had to put a diaper on him because he couldn’t get up to go to the toilet,” says the mother.
The 26-year-old brought the little one to the family doctor, who immediately referred the patient to a hospital. “He looked like he was dying. His mouth was dry, his face was pale and his eyes were black and sunken,” says Kasey Cooke, describing her boy’s condition. Doctors even feared that Billy could have fallen into a coma.
Lucky in misfortune: The three-year-old has already been released from the children’s hospital in Cardiff. According to Cooke, doctors are said to have found traces of salmonella during tests. Billy got this through the Ü-Egg.
According to the Daily Mail, Kasey Cooke is demanding compensation from Ferrero. There is still no answer in this regard. The magazine quoted a company spokesman as saying: “We are very sorry to hear from Kasey Cooke’s son. Our sincere thoughts are with her family at this moment.”
Shortly before Easter, Ferrero also recalled surprise eggs in Germany. A voluntary precaution, according to the chocolate giant.
The recall in Germany affects batches of Kinder Surprise Eggs (pack of three) with a sell-by date between April and June 2022, as well as Kinder-Schoko-Bons and Kinder-Schoko-Bons White with a sell-by date between May and September 2022.
The products Kinder-Surprise Maxi (100 grams), Kinder-Mini-Eggs (100 grams) and Kinder-Mix packs containing one of the above items with a best-before date between August and September 2022 are also being recalled. All items were manufactured in the same factory according to Ferrero.
