After North Waziristan tribal agency, Pakistan military has launched operation in Khyber agency and at least 21 militants and eight soldiers were killed in recent clashes and fighting in the tribal agency.
Islamabad, Oct 30/Nationalturk – At least 21 militants and eight soldiers were killed during military operation in Pakistan’s Khyber Agency.
“21 terrorists were killed and several others injured during army’s major clearance operation in the Spin Qamar area of Khyber Agency by security forces on Wednesday,” Pakistan army’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations, said in a statement.
He said eight army men were also killed during fierce fighting and exchange of fire with terrorists.
After its ongoing successful military operation in country’s North Waziristan tribe agency, Pakistan army has launched major clearance operation in Khyber Agency to eliminate the terrorists and destroy their safe havens and sanctuaries.
Pakistan military spokesman said about 66 militants and 12 soldiers have been injured in ongoing operations in Khyber.
“Over 100 militants, including some key commanders, have surrendered before the authorities,” he said.
Khyber is among Pakistan’s seven semi-autonomous tribal districts near the Afghan border, rife with homegrown insurgents and foreign militants. Khyber also links several agencies to each other, serving as a north-south route within the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).
1100 terrorists killed in North Waziristan
Pakistan army spokesman Maj Gen Asim Bajwa told reporters that over 1,100 terrorists have been killed during ongoing military operation named Zarb-i-Azb in North Waziristan.
The military operation was launched on June 15 this year to flush out local and foreign militants from the agency, which had been hub and command centre of militants and where from they were planning their attacks.
Declining to give a timeframe for the end of the military operation in North Waziristan, Pakistan military spokesman said the operation would continue till the areas area cleared of militants.
