Local media sources have reported that the weeklong heavy rain and floods caused the death of 21 people while up to 7000 people have been evacuated from their homes.

As the waters resided on Tuesday, the full damage caused by the floods came to the daunting attention of rescue workers and security officers.

According to officials, over 206 homes have been completely destroyed while dozens of roads and hundreds of bridges have been damaged during the week long torrential down fall.

The majority of the deaths were caused by drowning as victims who were stranded or trying to escape were swept away by the waters.

Many homes were also left without electricity after cables were broken due to the waters.

The Prime Minister of Romania, Emil Boc who flew to the damaged areas has said that he will be asking for emergency European funds after the amount of damage has been assessed.

Romania is going through tough times as the country is still battling with one of the worst recessions experienced in the country’s history.
