The report follows days of speculation that the 21 year old Turk would move after his representatives made it clear that he did not wish to play another season on loan. In 31 matches this season for 1. FC Nürnberg, Ekici was able to score 3 goals and along with 9 assists. He was under contract with Bayern until 2012 season.

The move will leave an unpleasant taste in the mouths of many Bayern fans. Bayern has again (the case of Mats Hummels) developed a player through every stage of the youth system (Ekici joined the club at age 7), only to allow an arch-rival to benefit from the finished product.
